THOSE CRAZY REPUBLICANS, DEMOCRATS, RINOs and UNAFFILIATED VOTERS (with all due respect) ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

OK, I FEEL A RANT COMING ON!

Ready? Set? GO!

Full disclosure, Friends…I have voted Democrat, Republican, and one Independent for President (Perot) in my many years of life (71, to be exact)! I have recently been attending some of the local Republican meetings/events. However, like many of you, I have issues with all politics and politicians these daysso here goes…

This blog is non partisan for a good reason:  we want to get information out to ALL the people in Gilpin County, regardless of your political affiliation, including Unaffiliated citizens. One purpose…shed light on what hides in darkness over our county. This is a way to get truth out to people BEFORE it’s too late to make positive changes!

I have no option right now than to tell you how ticked off I am about the latest political craziness I experienced Friday, when I saw the front-page story of the Weekly Register-Call (April 25, 2024) titled “Upcoming debate may become a lopsided affair.” Why did this story make me angry enough to call the Editor, which I have never done before?

Because the story here is about people (in this situation, the Gilpin County Republicans) that went with a great idea to host a debate this Thursday, May 2, at the Library at 7:00, inviting ALL voters to submit questions, watch the debate and meet the candidates.

On April 18, Commissioner Marie Mornis (the Chair of the GCRC) called her opponent, Jessica Lovingier Kays to ask if she would be interested in having a debate between them for the May 2 GCRC meeting (of which Jessica Lovingier Kays is Treasurer). Jessica told Marie, “I think that’s a great idea.” Commissioner Mornis asked again, to clarify, “So you’re OK with that?”  Jessica responded again in the affirmative. Marie then said, “Okay, good! I’ll get on it, then!”

Since both candidates for the primary election thought it was a good idea, several people got right on it and created an invitation to ALL Gilpin County voters to come have cupcakes and a candidates debate. There is an online meeting option, with a quick QR code for ease of joining, an address link to send questions for the candidates, etc. The invitation had to be submitted a week before, to meet newspaper deadlines. I created a blog post to alert all our Gilpin Light readers of both Republican and Democrat candidate events.

Hundreds of people have been notified of this event.

So now, I read in the WRC that Jessica Lovingier Kays says she is not going to attend. Really? Why not? Well, she is quoted in the article (which I am attaching below) as follows:  “The Kays campaign has not agreed or even been included in any of this event.” WHAAAAAT? Jessica told Marie it was a good idea, so the ball was rolling fast to alert the media and the public of the event.

Are the hosts of the event supposed to get the candidates’ opinions on the questions and the format? Why? They both know where they have their monthly meetings (they are both officers). Why wasn’t it good enough to get the approval of both candidates that they like the idea? Can’t the volunteers go forward with the plans, have the candidates show up ready to debate and meet with the regular folks?

This is ridiculous! When I spoke with the Editor of the WRC, she said she had spoken to Jessica Lovingier Kays, but Lovingier Kays DID NOT mention Marie’s call to her asking if she liked the idea of the debate. Therefore, that information never made it into the article. Hence, the newspaper folks made the story about one candidate’s retreat!

The article calls the efforts of those planning the event into question - all because one of the candidates is backing out. Political games are in full swing! Were they supposed to cancel the event because one candidate changed her mind?

There is another Republican candidate for Commissioner in District 3 (Corey Marshall) who will be in attendance on Thursday. We all hope Jessica Lovingier Kays will still participate, but if she doesn’t (as she has threatened), Marie Mornis and Corey Marshall will field the questions.

The public will really enjoy the friendly atmosphere of joining with others in Gilpin County who care enough to inform themselves about the candidates before the ballots get mailed in just one month after the meeting.

Some of the questions for the candidates I submitted were relating to:

  • The $1,000,000 IGA with Black Hawk?
  • The $1.5 MILLION “food pantry”?
  • A pledge - limit tax increase proposals to County Commissioner election years (saves money and requires accountability).

(Submitted to me by a brilliant Gilpin Light member).

  • Keeping Gilpin County rural?
  • Getting the rec center back up and running 7 days a week, paid by the General Fund?

A retired Jefferson County judge has agreed to be the Moderator, asking the questions submitted by voters.

This is a legitimate debate event. A lot of work has gone into the planning and preparation for the people of Gilpin County! A friend of ours will be baking cupcakes for days!!! Bless her heart! ❤️

I’m so disgusted with political posturing, games, and people who can’t trust anybody else to do a good job. Candidates should not have a heads up on the questions! Right???? Is that crazy? Or is it just me?

None of the candidates are privy to the questions - nobody is - except the Secretary who is compiling them to submit to the Moderator.

I am volunteering at this debate, as are a lot of good people, Unaffiliated and Republican alike.

The evening will not be “lopsided” unless Jessica Lovingier Kays doesn’t show up. Why in the world would a “Republican” candidate not participate in her own party’s debate? I don’t get it. I, personally, hope she changes her mind.

The event will  be informative. Isn’t that what we need…information to help us make the best decisions in this important election?

Come on out on Thursday! It’s the best thing going this week!

            CUPCAKES AND CANDIDATES!

                          ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Bring a friend! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ
