??? HAVE YOU BEEN DELETED?

https://www.coloradosos.gov/

If you are planning to vote in any election this year, CHECK TO SEE IF YOU ARE STILL REGISTERED TO VOTE! WHY??????

Follow “Register to Vote” links.

In order to vote in a Caucus, you must change your affiliation (even temporarily) to the political party of your candidate. After the caucus, you can repeat this step, and switch back to “Unaffiliated” if you wish.

You have many options when registering to vote. One of them is to keep your voter information “confidential.” If you attempt to change your affiliation (at the above link) and the information doesn’t appear on the website, it has most likely not been deleted, but is being withheld due to your “Confidential Voter” status. In that case, you make the change at the County Clerk’s office in the Historic Courthouse in Central City.

With just a little effort, you will be able to support your favorite candidates! If your candidates are in the party to which you are registered, just get to the Caucus and vote for them!

The caucuses are coming quickly:

Republican Caucus - Thursday, March 7, registration 6:30-7:00 p.m., meeting til 9.

LAST DAY TO CHANGE TO REP.
AFFILIATION Wednesday, Feb. 14.

Democrat Caucus - Saturday, March 9, 1-4
LAST DAY TO CHANGE TO DEM.
AFFILIATION Friday, Feb. 16.
Both Caucuses are being held at The Gilpin School.

We have three County Commissioners here in Gilpin County. Two incumbent commissioners are being challenged in the upcoming election (Marie Mornis (R) in the south end and Sandy Hollingsworth (D) in the north).

LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD IN THESE LOCAL CAUCUSES AND ELECTIONS! Your participation helps us all!

SECOND TOPIC - The commissioners will be voting tomorrow, February 13 at 9 a.mon raising fees for the Rec Center! We voted down the extra tax in November, (nearly 2-1) and they’re coming at us through another door already! They are going to TEACH US OUR LESSON! Tell them what you think TODAY - links below. Why increase fees to the taxpayers when two of the commissioners have voted to spend $1.5 MILLION of your money to build a new food pantry? The Director admitted her proposal to increase fees would bring in approximately $30,000! It’s unnecessary. It’s pathetic! LET THEM KNOW BEFORE THEY VOTE!

Have a look at the letter I just received from our former Commissioner Web Sill’s widow, Diann. She spoke her heart and soul to the Commissioners in this letter this morning. We have a lot to learn from those who built this county. Thank you, Mrs. Sill.

Commissioners,

I am not in favor of increased tax in any form!

My husband, Web Sill, knew well the necessary expenses of Gilpin County.  He had formulated a lower budget that included the full budget for the Rec Center and fairgrounds.

When he was first a commissioner that lead the charge for the rec center and fairgrounds, the county was only about 500 people fewer than current population and on a budget of half the dollars or less of the current budget.

When he left office the first time in 2004, our debts were paid, we had a large

emergency reserve and we had the lowest taxes in the State of Colorado.  The fairgrounds and recreation center were built and paid for in full, county roads were greatly improved and we had a small but effective government.  We focused on hiring from within Gilpin.  Since then our County budget has ballooned, our government has grown, we import employees, and we struggle to fund basic operations for debt free facilities.

What happened?

As majority voting commissioners, you have exploited a minor population growth to justify what is quickly becoming a multi-million dollar government bureaucracy. You have utilized non-local consultants and formed a highly paid senior management team, only to do the work you have been elected to do. The funds required to support this top-heavy government expansion has come at the expense of our much loved fairgrounds and recreation center. You are looking for every way to increase taxes for your own purposes and pet projects rather than the good of the citizens.

We voted NO on the rec center ballot issue!  WE VOTED NO! We did not vote for you to finagle another way to get more taxes.  Lower your budget! Quit thinking you always need MORE!

Additionally we do not need an additional building for the Food Pantry. That is money that should be going toward the rec center. There may be the numbers of qualified users you claim, but be assured there are not that many actually using the food pantry! It is only open from 1:30 to 4pm on Thursdays and they only allow 4 people at a time to shop.

You were hired by the voters! Now do your job and stop asking for more!

Diann Sill

THIRD TOPIC - We want to thank all of you that voted against the new 1A tax for the rec center. Especially now, since we all received our huge property tax increases! Our personal property taxes have more than DOUBLED in nine years!!!! The bottom line on our tax detail is the highlight:
                            “Parks and Recreation - $0”

Thank you for reading, researching and sharing the light!
