Why is the GILPIN COUNTY “NEWSPAPER OF RECORD” in Boulder County?
We read this editorial in the Weekly Register Call last week and just don’t understand why our commissioners would do such a thing! And then DO IT AGAIN!!! Please read the editorial and see what you think! If you have an opinion, one way or the other, you will have to write the commissioners, or call them at the contacts below! Why?
Because this item isn’t even up for discussion by the regular folks at the meeting! In fact, the County Manager has already prepared the item for the commissioners with the Boulder County newspaper (“The Mountain-Ear”) pre-printed on the form! This item is at the very beginning of the agenda! You can still be heard during public comment time, either in person or on Zoom (link on Gilpin County’s website face page). But it is scheduled BEFORE public comment times.
It sure sounds like this important issue has already been decided - which is what bothers us most! Where was the Public Hearing? What if we the people want the commissioners to follow the rules and use a newspaper from our own county to be our “Newspaper of Record”?
Please don’t misunderstand - we appreciate both papers, both editors, and have paid advertising dollars to both. But right is right, and politics should not interfere with such an important issue for our county!
That’s all for today. If you care about this, please do/say something.
Here is the editorial (again):
Thank you for reading, sharing and responding (if you choose to do so).
